 H. Alexander Robinson NBJC Executive Director & CEO |
The National Black Justice Coalition hails the historic action by the US House of Representatives which today passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and pledges ongoing support for the enactment of federal workplace protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender American.
ENDA was passed by the Congress with the unprecedented support of the leading civil rights and labor organizations including the nation's leading civil rights coalition the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) and civil rights standard bearer the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

The following is a statement from NBJC Chief Executive Officer H. Alexander Robinson
"Though we are extremely disappointed that the version of ENDA which passed the House today did not include protections from discrimination based on gender identity, and thereby would continue to leave transgender Americans without employment protection, this is a step in the right direction. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are vital contributors to our nation and deserve to live free from discrimination and fear of losing the ability to support their families.
We applaud the efforts of LCCR, the NAACP and Members of Congress who worked diligently to pass the most inclusive bill possible and we look forward to working with them and our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender colleagues to achieve our goal of federal civil rights protection for all LGBT Americans."
NBJC is the nation’s leading civil rights organization of Black LGBT people and allies. NBJC is a member of the Black Leadership Forum and works with its sister organization NBJC Action Fund to bring about political change for racial justice and equality for LGBT Americans.
