Jeffrey King

Jeffrey C. King, Executive Director of In the Meantime Men's Group, Inc. has a ten history of focused work in the HIV/AIDS arena. His primary area of specialization has and continues to be African American MSM (Men who have Sex with Men).

Jeffrey has developed, written and implemented a number of local community based interventions including the NIA (Purpose) curriculum that focuses specifically on the disproportionate impact of homophobia, racism, stigma, and other social ills on African American MSM in Los Angeles County.

Although Jeffrey's current work focuses specifically on the issues that most impact homosexual men, he has also worked directly with heterosexual African American men in the south Los Angeles area around education and risk reduction for HIV/AIDS. This work focused specifically on men in barbershops.

For the past six years Jeffrey has developed and managed the programming for In The Meantime Men's Group in Los Angeles with an average annual budget of six hundred thousand dollars. Positioned strategically within the building of the Catch One Disco, one of Los Angeles' oldest and most popular standing night spots for African American MSM, In The Meantime is able to maintain a direct contact with the target population.

Jeffrey continues to be active in the community by participating on community advisory boards for local research projects  including Drew University and AIDS Project LA.

In addition, Jeffrey has served as co-chair of the California HIV Planning Group African American MSM taskforce ( 2004). He has spearheaded and currently chairs the Los Angeles prevention planning commission African American MSM taskforce. He has also been an active participant statewide in African American work groups representing Los Angeles . Jeffrey currently chairs the Standards and Best practices of the Los Angeles PPC.

Jeffrey continues to provide support and direction for a number of advisory boards including the Los Angeles 2nd district coalition, the Rainbow Community advisory board, the 6th Service Planning area, the 4th service planning areas in Los Angeles county, and the Los Angeles Black Pride planning committee to name a few.

Current collaborations include "Project My Life", between In The Meantime and APLA, which was developed and co-written by Jeffrey King. This project focuses specifically on group support and one-on-one mental health counseling for African American MSM between the ages 18- 28. Other collaborations include the Men of Distinction Project that engages African American MSM over thirty to act as mentors for younger African American MSM.

Jeffrey has also developed the only south Los Angeles Black men's Health and wellness conference that bridges the gap between health care professionals and African American men in Los Angeles County . Jeffrey is currently working directly with the Gay and Lesbian Center and AIDS Health Care Foundation to provide targeted HIV/AIDS and STD counseling and testing to African American MSM in the South Los Angeles area.

Working closely with Rainbow Bridge / Alternative Treatment centers for substance abuse, Jeffrey is developing the first South Los Angeles Crystal Methamphetamine town hall and ongoing crystal methamphetamine taskforce.
